At Mosaic Education Initiative (MEI), we support students around the world through scholarships, mentorship, and educational resources.
Why MEI Exists
Creating the future — one student at a time.
At Mosaic Education Initiative (MEI), we operate in the fragile space where young people navigating foster care, displacement, and complex transitions need more than potential — they need a stable foundation to keep moving forward.
Founded by Kim McManus (pictured to the left), MEI was born out of a deep commitment to young people whose futures are often disrupted by instability, transition, and limited access. Her vision shaped an organization built to stay close to students as they navigate the path into adulthood.
MEI exists to protect that forward momentum.
We support students navigating foster care, immigration, refugee displacement, economic instability, and other barriers that can interrupt their educational journey. Many of the young people we walk alongside lack neither drive, intelligence, nor vision. They are navigating systems and circumstances that make persistence harder than it should be.
Through scholarships, mentorship, educational resources, and relational support, MEI helps students remain enrolled, focused, and steadily progressing toward graduation.
THE WORK
-

Scholarships
Financial support that keeps students in school.
MEI provides scholarships that help students access and remain in education. Depending on the situation, support may cover tuition, school fees, housing, or other essential costs that allow a student to stay focused on their studies.
-

Mentorship
A steady presence during the transition into adulthood.
Students are paired with mentors who provide guidance, encouragement, and consistent relational support. As young adults navigate independence, work, school, and life decisions for the first time, mentors walk alongside them so they don’t have to figure it out alone.
-
Educational Resources
Stability that makes focus possible.
Some barriers to education have nothing to do with tuition. MEI provides practical support such as books, technology, transportation, meals, and other resources that stabilize a student’s ability to stay in school and move forward.

MALAWI
In Partnership with Mosaic Global
For over a decade, Kim has been deeply connected to communities in Malawi through her leadership with Mosaic Global. In recent years, MEI has had the privilege of joining that work alongside Mosaic Global, Live Love Malawi, and local leaders in Chilinza Village.
What became clear over time was not a lack of desire for education, but a lack of access to the environment needed to support it. Students and teachers were already showing up. In 2023, MEI, Mosaic Global, and Live Love Malawi began construction on a primary school designed to create stronger learning environments and long-term stability.
Miracle, an MEI scholarship recipient, graduate, and poet, is one of the students we have had the honor of walking with. In this video, created in partnership with Mosaic Global, she performs This Is Malawi — an original poem about her homeland, known as the Warm Heart of Africa.
We collaborate with organizations committed to expanding educational opportunities for students around the world.
