Stories of Impact.

MEI's journey began with responsive, community-driven projects. These stories capture where we started and what we learned along the way.

Our Legacy Projects.

Before MEI developed its formal three-tier model, we partnered closely with Mosaic Global on a range of high-need initiatives from school builds to feeding programs to teacher housing. These efforts helped us understand the deeper need for sustainable, long-term access to education.

  • Malawi Teacher Housing

    Project Summary
In 2024-25, MEI partnered with Mosaic Global to build safe, stable housing for rural teachers in Malawi. The goal was to reduce teacher turnover, improve classroom stability, and support students by improving the learning environment. The homes are now fully occupied and operational.

    What We Learned
Stable teacher housing is a critical piece of educational access. When teachers have security and support, students benefit from continuity, which improves retention and outcomes.

    Key Facts
    Doors Opened: October 2024
    Teachers Moved In: 7
    Financial Partners: Mosaic Global
    Status: Fully operational

  • Chilinza Primary School Build

    Project Summary
What began as the restoration of a rural school became one of the most transformational education projects in MEI’s and Chilinza village’s history.

Chilinza Primary School in Lilongwe, Malawi was rebuilt and dedicated on July 21, 2022, becoming a safe, inclusive, modern learning center for surrounding villages. Enrollment has grown from 600 to more than 1,400 students, making the school a beacon of stability and hope in the region.

    What We Learned
Building infrastructure matters, but it’s only part of the equation.
When the learning environment is safe, supported, and connected to community leadership, students stay longer, learn better, and believe a different future is possible.

    Key Facts
    Doors Opened: July 2022
    Students Served: ~1,400 enrolled
    Financial Partners: Mosaic Global
Status: Fully operational and actively serving students

  • Chilinza Feeding Program

    Project Summary
Launched alongside the school rebuild, the Chilinza Feeding Program ensures that every student begins the day nourished and ready to learn — especially during Malawi’s “hungry months,” when food scarcity peaks.
Feeding ~1,400 students daily with a nutrient-rich porridge, the program has become one of the most transformative components of the entire project, directly tied to attendance, performance, and student well-being.

    What We Learned
Hunger is one of the biggest barriers to education. The feeding program did more than provide meals, it increased enrollment, kept students in classrooms, supported concentration, and reduced the need for children to seek work during food-scarce seasons.

A reliable meal doesn’t just change a school day, it changes a whole community’s relationship with education.

    Key Facts
    Program Launch: July 2022
    Students Fed Daily: ~1,400
    Financial Partners: Mosaic Global
    Status: Ongoing and operational

HOW THIS WORK LED TO OUR current access MODEL.

These projects revealed that real access to education requires stability, personal support, and long-term financial structure. This is what led us to build MEI's three-tier model for sustainable educational access.

Today, our model focuses on individual student pathways. Full scholarships, shared scholarships, and digital career program supported by mentorship and long-term tracking. These are the stories from students and mentors in the current MEI community.

Your gift today strengthens the scholarships and systems we need to create the future.

Every one of MEI’s legacy projects, from new classrooms to teacher housing to campus infrastructure, exists because people believed in what young learners could become, regardless of circumstance.

As we expand into scholarships, mentorship pathways, and U.S.–based support, we continue building on the same belief that shaped our earliest impact.
