Kim McManus

Over thirty years ago, Kim and her husband, Erwin, moved to Los Angeles with a vision to build Mosaic, a community that would welcome dreamers, artists, and misfits from every walk of life. What began as a dream has grown into a global mission that continues to shape lives across continents.

Out of that same heart, Kim founded Mosaic Education Initiative. Having grown up in foster care herself, she understands what it means to fight for stability, to feel unseen, and to keep believing in a future others can’t yet imagine.

Her leadership is marked by compassion, discernment, and the rare ability to build genuine respect across cultures and positions of influence. She’s earned the trust of leaders in government, education, and faith, forming partnerships that strengthen MEI’s reach and long-term impact. Whether speaking with a head of state or a student in their first year of school, Kim leads with the same grounded conviction that every person carries potential worth investing in.

Our Board of Directors

Our board brings expertise across medicine, law, psychology, and the arts, helping shape the systems that make MEI’s work possible

Dr. Sey Lee, MD

I’ve spent over two decades working in medicine and education serving veterans as a physician and training future doctors as a clinical professor. I also founded Acton Academy Orange County, a school built on character, community, and calling. I believe the next generation of leaders often come from the most unexpected places, and I’m proud to help them rise.

Sandy Oak Lee, MD, FAAP

Being a part of MEI allows for the opportunity to make tangible life changing impact for youths with limited resources and circumstances. As a pediatrician, former foster parent, and international medical volunteer, I know firsthand how even small changes can create big results in a person’s future. Come be a part of MEI- and see what we can do together!

Dr. Samuel M. Girguis, Psy.D

As a licensed psychologist specializing in trauma and resilience, I’ve spent my career helping people rebuild after hardship. What excites me about MEI is seeing the same strength in our students, young people who just need the chance to flourish. I’m passionate about keeping our work rooted in a trauma-informed perspective and helping every student discover the power already within them.

Mary Tanagho Ross

As Vice President of Legal Programs at Bet Tzedek Legal Services, I’ve spent more than 15 years advocating for children and vulnerable communities around the world. Through my work in human rights, I’ve seen how access to education can transform the course of a life. Being part of MEI allows me to help create those opportunities so every young person has the chance to build a future filled with dignity, purpose, and growth.

Francine G

I lead MEI’s program operations ensuring our work stays aligned with both mission and sustainability. My commitment to this work is deeply personal. Having grown up in a home marked by instability and the risk of foster care, I know the difference consistent support can make in a young person’s life. That understanding shapes my leadership and my dedication to helping MEI serve students who deserve every chance to thrive.

Angelo R

I became involved with MEI as a volunteer mentor for one of our students in Los Angeles. What began as a single connection showed us how transformative consistent support and real-life guidance can be in helping students stay in school and believe in their future. That experience helped inspire MEI’s mentorship program, which I continue to support today. Outside of MEI, I work in film and use those skills to help capture the stories and impact of our community.

I build MEI’s partnerships with community organizations, corporate collaborations, and government institutions. My background in local California and national politics taught me how coalitions can turn shared values into real outcomes. For over a decade, I’ve helped connect resources and awareness to communities that deserve to be seen. At MEI, my goal is to help open pathways for students to discover and live out their purpose.

Walker K

My connection to MEI began first as one of its scholarship students, an opportunity that changed the course of my life. The mentorship, education, and community I found through MEI helped me see what was possible when someone believes in you. Today, I volunteer with the organization to help guide and encourage other young people in Malawi and beyond, offering the same support and belief that once opened the door for me.

Stephanie K

As a first-generation college graduate, educator, and leadership coach, I’ve seen firsthand how education can change the trajectory of a life. At MEI, I partner with schools across the country and around the world to ensure students receive the resources, relationships, and support they need to thrive. My experience leading schools in Los Angeles and teaching internationally helps me connect with students in all countries facing transition, foster care, and systemic barriers.
